Indrė Biekšaitė-Vilčinskienė
Indrė Biekšaitė-Vilčinskienė (Vilnius, LT) is a textile artist and a graphic designer whose work often examines the themes of collective memory, identity, temporality.
Biekšaitė-Vilčinskienė's work narratives are highly influenced by photography, film, architecture and, digital arts. During the creative process, traditional textile techniques such as tapestry (also known as gobelin) are being used, which have a rich history, especially flourishing in the 16th-17th centuries.
Biekšaitė-Vilčinskienė's textile design objects combine two elements that are difficult to combine: a traditional tapestry that requires time and patience, and modern portraits or abstractions that reflect the fast pace of life, consumer culture, narcissism, the abundance of personalities and, social networking activities. The compositions are influenced by the spontaneity of digital capture. It is therefore interesting that works that require a long and slow process - create momentum, the impression of a suspended moment that resonates in the field of modern visual culture.
